Cookie Policy

Last updated: August 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how Margin uses cookies and local storage technologies. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

1. What Are Cookies and Local Storage?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a web application. Margin also uses localStorage — a browser-based storage mechanism — to maintain your session and preferences. Neither is used for advertising or cross-site tracking.

2. Storage We Use

Name Storage Type Purpose Duration
margin_token localStorage Strictly necessary Stores your JSON Web Token (JWT) to maintain your authenticated session after login. Without this you cannot remain logged in. 7 days
onboardingDone localStorage Functional Records whether you have completed the setup wizard so it is not shown again. Persistent
margin_prefs localStorage Functional Stores your UI preferences such as active panel and display settings. Persistent
stripe_mid Cookie Third-party Set by Stripe for fraud prevention and device fingerprinting during payment and billing portal sessions. 1 year

3. Strictly Necessary Storage

The authentication token is strictly necessary for the application to function securely. It cannot be disabled without preventing you from logging in. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), strictly necessary cookies and equivalent local storage do not require your consent.

4. Functional Storage

Functional localStorage entries improve your experience by remembering your settings between sessions. They do not track your activity across other websites. You can clear these via your browser's developer tools at any time without losing access to the Service.

5. Third-Party Cookies

Stripe may set cookies on your device when you access payment and billing features. These cookies are governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy. We do not use any advertising, tracking, or analytics cookies.

6. Managing Cookies

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Please note that disabling strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from logging in to the Service. For guidance on managing cookies in your specific browser, visit allaboutcookies.org.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance. For queries, contact us at hello@getmargin.co.uk.
